根據「當代生物學」（Current Biology）今天刊登的研究，袋鼠有左撇子傾向。

法新社報導，俄羅斯聖彼得堡國立大學（Saint Petersburg State University）研究員馬拉希契夫（Yegor Malashichev）首度研究袋鼠，先前聚焦在跳蛙、步行蛙和灰色短尾負鼠的慣用手。

新研究說，澳洲和南部塔斯馬尼亞島（Tasmania）的野生袋鼠，「執行特定動作時自然偏好用左手，例如清理鼻部、摘葉子或彎曲樹枝」。

「東部灰袋鼠和紅袋鼠左撇子情況尤為明顯。」

至於紅頸袋鼠，似乎是做某些事時才傾向左手，例如精細動作技能的時候 ，其他需要更多力氣的時候則傾向右手。

馬拉希契夫說：「根據用於靈長類的慣用手特殊評量級別，袋鼠拿下最高級。」 「我們觀察到整個兩足物種圈在反應上有顯著的一致性，在於牠們都比較喜歡使用左手，而不是右手。」
